Are you going to Heaven?

What is Heaven?  I’m glad you were curious enough to ask this question.

Let me explain my story to you.  A few years ago I had some pressure on my heart.  I decided to go to the hospital to get it checked out.  I remember them doing a number of tests on me.  They checked my blood pressure … it seemed normal.  They did a chest x-ray … it was normal.  They did an EKG test … it was normal.  Finally, they took some blood from me and tested it … it showed some trouble and was not normal.

The doctor told me that he thought they should do a heart catheterization.  This is when they run a small camera up inside the body to look right into the heart.  The doctor then ran the camera up through my veins and into my heart.  I watched on a TV monitor and saw my own heart on the screen.  I saw there was a blockage in my heart.

That was not the first time I saw my heart.

Many years before (I was just a boy) I remember playing outside with some of my friends.  While I was playing, I noticed my mothers flowers growing outside one of the windows of our house.  I noticed that the flowers were all different heights.  I thought they would look better if they were all even in height.  I began very carefully to break off the flowers so that they were all the same height.  My mother was inside the house and saw what I was doing.  She came outside and asked me, “Did you break off my flowers?”  I could see in her face that she was not happy, and that I was going to be punished if I said yes.  I tried to look innocent and said, “No.”  I saw my heart for the first time.  I understood that inside my heart were lies and sin.

Let me show you what God’s Word says about our hearts and that sin.  Four things:

  1. All of us have sinned – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) – You and I and everyone we know have sinned.  We have lied, stolen, disobeyed and many other things.
  2. Because of that sin, we do not have a right relationship with God – “For the wages of sin is death …” (Romans 6:23a) – God is perfect, pure, holy and righteous.  You and I are the opposite of that, and because of that, we cannot touch Heaven with our sin.  That sin separates us from God!
  3. God was not satisfied that you would not be able to touch Heaven – so God sent His one and only Son to this earth to die for payment for your sins – “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8) – Jesus was perfect, pure, holy and righteous like God, and He paid the price for your sin when He died on the cross FOR you.  Jesus Christ came to earth to die to pay for your sins!
  4. God provided His Son as a gift to you.  You must receive it for yourself before that gift can become yours.  The separation between you and God (because of your sin), can be closed because Jesus Christ is God’s Bridge for you to cross over into Heaven – “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Would you pray right now to take the gift that God offers you?  Heaven can be yours, but you must take the gift God offered of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection for your own.  Pray something like this …

Dear Jesus, I understand that I am a sinner separated from You because of my sin.  I believe you sent Jesus Christ here to the earth to die for my sin.  I believe Jesus was perfect, pure, holy and righteous, just like you.  I believe that He died in my place, for my payment for sin.  I believe that Jesus died for me.  I believe He was buried, but that He rose from the grave three days later to conquer my sin.  Today I take the gift of Jesus Christ for my payment for sin.  I will trust Jesus Christ, and only Him to forgive my sin and give me a home in Heaven.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

If you prayed that prayer today, and you really meant it, your sins have been forgiven!  You made a great choice.   Would you take a moment to let us know that you made that decision?  I would like to send you some information that will help you to go and grow from here.

If you decided not to pray today, I want to encourage you to make that choice soon.  I want to meet you in Heaven.  Don’t put off this decision too long.  God loves you and wants to see you in Heaven too!

Thank you for your time today.  I appreciate your attention to this important question … “Heaven me?”
