We have lived in our present home for the past twenty-five years. We purchased property that already had a well drilled on it. We then hired a builder to come and build our home. My best-friendfrom high-school was a contractor, and I contacted him to build our home. He did a great job. He did not have a large company, but everyone that worked for him was a hard worker, and did a quality job. I have seen other homes that are far more expensive than our home, but I found to be built with far less quality than our home. We have lived here for the past twenty-five years, and our home is still as sturdy as the day we moved in.

I discovered that the person who builds your home has everything to do with the quality of the house. While other, far more expensive homes, are built by large construction companies with thousands of employees, I found that my friends’ company with five workers did a far better job. They did not have all the fancy equipment, or the newest vehicles, they did have one thing that the large contractors did not have … workers interested in doing quality work at every stage.

Today I read a very familiar verse to many. “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain” (Psalm 127:1). While other people boast great advantages for building their lives their way, by their own standards while ignoring God, I have found that allowing Him to build my life has been the best decision of my life. The world we are living in has great appeal to many. They offer freedom, pleasure, finances, love, and many other things. The bottom line is that the world is not interested in helping you build a home that will last.

You have a choice about who will build your home, and you have the choice of who you will trust to build your life. If you trust the Lord to build your house, you will find that you have a life that will last throughout eternity. If you allow your life to be built by the world, or the devil, it might look good for a time, but it will not stand the test of time. If you allow God to guard the walls of your life, you will find safety and protection throughout your life inside those city walls. If you choose anything other than God to protect the city walls of your heart, you will find that enemies will attack, and you will have no defense to fight them off.

When we chose the builder for our home, we knew it was a very important decision. The One we trust to build our lives is far more important!
