I remember taking a trip across the country in a plane. When we departed from Philadelphia it was raining and storming. As our plane ascended through the clouds, we broke into the brilliant sunshine. It amazed me that while it was raining hard on Philadelphia, that the sun was so brightly shining above. It made me think about the perspective God has on what is happening in our lives. Sometimes we can only see the rain and the clouds, but God sees the whole picture. Today I read Psalm 113, and these verses were a blessing.
“The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth” (Psalm 113:4-6)! These verses are amazing, and give us a glimpse of how incredible our God is today. He is not entangled with the cares of this world that we so often become entangled in. I love the description of verse 6 where the psalmist describes God as needing to humble Himself to even look at the things in Heaven. Do you catch the meaning behind that phrase?
God is so amazingly impressive, that to view the streets of gold that we often talk so longingly about; to see the walls made of precious stones that I am sure will blow our minds; to look on the twelve gates each made of one gigantic pearl; He must humble Himself. That tells me that He is so far above these things in value that He needs to lower Himself just to look at them! The writers of Scripture have used the most glowing terms we have to describe what Heaven will be like, and our God must humble Himself to be able even to look at them!
I don’t know what challenges you are facing today. I am sure that some of you are facing health issues. Some of you are facing difficulties at your job. Some of you in ministry are looking at challenges that seem to be impossible. And some of you might be facing death yourself, or a loved one is facing a life-threatening situation. I don’t know what you’re facing, but I know that the God Who must humble Himself to behold the beauties of Heaven has an eye on you and your situation. It is comforting to me to know that His view is far different than mine. It is also comforting to know that every challenge that has come into my life, first passed through His approval process to reach me. Knowing His perspective, and His love for me, I am at peace accepting the challenges that are coming my way today. I want to encourage you to trust God and His wisdom rather than your own understanding and your strength. Remember, He is high and lifted up!
