As I look back over my life, I can see the hand of God moving me, others, and things so that I could find the perfect will of God. For example; I was born into a family with a father and mother who were not only saved, but committed to living their lives for God’s glory, and to following the principles of the Word of God. I thank God for placing me into this family.
I was blessed to understand the Gospel and my need of a Savior as a young boy of six-years of age. Because of that, I have never had addictions to alcohol, tobacco products, or drugs. Of course, being saved at an early age is no guarantee of missing these pitfalls, but it certainly helps. I was blessed by being a part of an active local church where I was completely engaged from the time I was a young boy, all the way through my teenage years. I then was blessed to be able to attend Bible College, where I was supremely blessed to meet my wife.
We were blessed to move from graduation from college to ministry with no gap between. We have been blessed with four children, and now ten grandchildren. In November we will celebrate our thirty-ninth anniversary! We have been blessed to join with Silent Word Ministries in 1999, and for being able to serve the Lord together ever since that time. Of course, this trip through life has not been without its challenges. We have not always understood every detour, or block, or set-back in our path, but we have seen God provide every step of the way.
Today I read, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us” (Psalm 124:2-3). All the glory for the good things that have happened in my life go to the Lord! I can see how He moved me to meet different people in order to shape and mold me into the man God could use today. He has done the same for you. A friend of mine named Henry has often shared with me that God not only directs the steps of a good man, but He also directs the stops of a good man as well.
Without the help of God in our lives, we would be in trouble. I often wonder how people without the help of God in their lives make it through even one day. Having said that, sometimes we believers walk through life as though we are responsible for the blessings we will receive. The reality is that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights, and we have nothing to do with it. I want to remember to give praise to God for all that He has done, and will do in my life! I want to remain in the hollow of His hand!
