April 5

God has allowed me to have some incredible friendships in my lifetime. Some of these friendships have taken me to places I would not have enjoyed going. What I mean by that is that some of my friends have gone through very difficult situations. When you are a friend, you will go through good and bad together. One friend of mine fought Lou Gehrig’s disease (better known today as A.L.S.). I watched my friend fight and eventually lose his battle with this disease. Going through that with him, made me really appreciate the good health I enjoy.

Another friend of mine dealt with the death of his son in a way that I have admired and admire still to this day. This too was difficult to go through, but it reminded I find it very valuable to get my focus off myself, and onto my God. Sometimes I find myself being tempted to keep the focus on “my” life, and “my” problems. I was reminded today that it is always good to look to God more often than I do. When I see friends go through tough times with grace, I admire them, and it helps me. When I focus on God in my trials and daily routine, it inspires me.

Today I read, “Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings” (Psalm 36:5-7). I love the 7th verse that ends this quotation. David could not contain his praise for God as he considered the mercy, faithfulness, righteousness, and judgment of God! He had to cry out, “How excellent is Thy lovingkindness, O LORD!” I join David in proclaiming the excellence of God!

David’s description shows how difficult it is to describe an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent God! He tries his best by using some of the largest things he had seen. The Lord’s mercies are higher than the heavens. His faithfulness has the depth of the distance between us and the clouds. His righteousness is as immense as the mountains; and his mercies as deep as the deepest oceans! That is an incredible God!

As a result of a correct view of God, I am able to run to Him with all my issues (big or small) and hide myself in the shadow of His wings. What a great opportunity we have as believers to have such an awesome God! I am thankful today that He is more than God to me. He is my Heavenly Father Who I know cares for me and will help me live right.
