When I was a little boy, we sang a song called, “Deep and Wide.” It spoke about a fountain that came from God and was both deep and wide. Today I read a series of verses in Romans 11 that brought my mind to the same place as when I was a little boy. “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! [11:34] For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been His counsellor? [11:35] Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto Him again? [11:36] For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen” (Romans 11:33-36).
What incredible verses for us to consider today! What an incredible advantage it is to know God personally! Our God is not like other gods. He is not limited by space or by our actions. He is beyond us and far beyond our sin. We cannot make Him from a piece of wood or stone! We cannot alter His plan. He is beyond measure and His wisdom is beyond measure. We are living in a time when everything is challenged. Even obvious truth is questioned as though our questions change the truth of truth itself. The reality is that God is God and the depth of His wisdom is beyond our ability to understand.
I am so thankful in this world that so often confuses and befuddles me that I have a God Who not only knows everything, but Who has everything in control! There is nothing that will happen today in my life that will be a surprise to God. There is nothing that will happen around the world today that has not already passed the approval of our loving Heavenly Father. Just knowing this helps me to have a peace that passes understanding. Knowing that I know the Master of the Universe, and that He loved me enough to pay the price for my sin, gives me incredible joy.
When the troubles of this world seem to be too much for you to handle, stop trying to live your life on your own. Turn to this incredible God and lean on His power and ability. In everything you do today, trust His guiding and providing hand. He is well able to handle any problem we might encounter today. He is the Creator of the universe, and He has all things under control. I love that last verse … “For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever.” Our lives consist for Him and through Him, and everything we have belongs to Him and should bring Him glory. That is my goal for this day … to bring glory to my God!
