December 7

Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD He is God in Heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: There is none else.  Thou shalt keep therefore His statutes, and His commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, forever” (Deuteronomy 4:39-40).

I think God is the only Person that can say, “Because I say so …” and it really is true.  I remember when our children were younger and in that stage when they were constantly asking “Why?” about everything.  I would do my best to answer all the questions until I realized there was never going to be an end (that mixed with the fact that I did not know the answers), and I would try to cut them short by saying, “Because I say so.”  When I said that, it did not necessarily carry the weight of intelligence and experience needed.  When God says it, it’s time to stop asking questions.

In the passage written above, I love the phrase that comes at the end of verse thirty-nine.  “There is none else.”  In other words, when God speaks, we do not need a second opinion … or do we?  Why is it that we question the clear teaching of the Word of God?  Why is it that when the Bible convicts our soul that we try to find an excuse for our behavior, instead of confessing our sin; repenting of it; and forsaking it?  Why is it that when others speak about our God in condescending ways that we allow them to get away with it, without standing up for Him?  Why is it that when we have the opportunity to tell someone that God in Heaven reached down to us with His very own Son, that we often balk and miss the opportunities?

Obedience to our God and His Word will result in blessings … not only for you, but for your children and into the future!  Why would we not acknowledge our God in everyday life?  Why is it that we seem to be far more concerned with what others think about us than we do what God thinks about us?  I believe it is time for those of us who are Christians to stand up and begin to serve our God like He is God and there is none else!  It’s time to stop playing the game of Christianity and begin to live a Spirit-filled life that will demonstrate to those we meet on a daily basis that God is more than a curse word.  I think that it was the same in the days of Moses.  God was depending on Israel to stand for Him and let the world see what He could do for a nation that followed Him.  Decide to stand for your God today.  Don’t allow the world to miss this wonderful God we serve!
