A few years ago, I had a quick meeting scheduled near friends of ours who live in Massachusetts. I called and asked if I could “crash” at their home for one night. They quickly agreed, and the plan was confirmed. I had my meeting in the late afternoon into the evening. When I arrived at their house, it was already dark. We had some sweet fellowship and then it was time to go to sleep. I thought I would just sack out on their couch. They quickly informed me that they wanted me to sleep in their bedroom upstairs, and they were going to sleep in a second bedroom they had downstairs.
Of course, I politely objected … but I eventually surrendered. They showed me to their room, and explained that if I opened the sliding glass doors in their room, I would be able to hear the ocean. Of course, I did that, and was surprised to see how close we were to the ocean. There was only one small street and a house on the other side of the street between us and the ocean. I left the sliding glass doors open all night, and I had one of the most restful night’s sleep I had had in a long time! The sound of the waves coming into the shore over and over again was wonderful!
Today I read some verses that reminded me of that experience in Psalm 93. Speaking about our relationship with God the writer wrote, “The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever” (Psalms 93:4-5). That night, hearing the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, was very soothing to me. It is even more comforting knowing that God is far mightier than those waves. I am thrilled to know the God Who spoke the world into existence, including all the water in the oceans of the world.
In a time when it seems that the people and places that had once had power are losing that power at every turn, it is good to know that our God has not lost any of His strength and power. I have watched Him change lives! I have watched Him rescue marriages. I have seen the impact His Word has had on the hardened hearts of people. I have seen all this through my own eyes as I have watched God do that in my own life! I am so thrilled to tell you without hesitation today that our God is ready, willing, and able to handle whatever it is you and I will face today.
His testimonies are sure – there is holiness in His house! While the world is searching so frantically for answers, it is nice to know that “the LORD on high is mightier than the noise” of this world. Trust Him completely today.
