I remember the time when we lived in Maryland and would come home for the holidays. We always called home and told our parents that we were coming. They always made sure the doors were unlocked and open for us when we arrived. They were excited to see us, and we were excited to see them. What a great feeling to come down the walkway toward the home that you grew up in!
Going home was special for multiple reasons. Seeing family that you had not seen for quite some time was the best part. I always enjoyed just sitting around the living room, or the kitchen table reviewing all that was happening in our lives while we were separated. I also must admit that I love the food that we enjoy together. While these times were great reunions, there is one coming that will be even better.
Psalm 24 records two verses that are repeated twice in this chapter. “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah” (Psalm 24:7-10).
The King of glory has come! Jesus Christ came to this earth in order to purchase the redemption of sinners. He came for us … He came for me! When He came here, He had to leave those everlasting doors to dwell in a human body. He came here so we could follow Him to Heaven one day. From the time that Jesus saved my soul, until today, my home has been Heaven. I look forward so much to the day that I will enter those everlasting gates!
Make no mistake … I will not deserve to be there, even a little bit. I will enter those gates because I know the King of glory. I know the LORD mighty in battle personally. If He is not my Savior, I have no right to enter Heaven. I was always welcomed in my parent’s house when we visited from Maryland because I was a part of the family. I will be given access to Heaven and will walk through those everlasting gates because I am family. I have been adopted into the family of God because of the payment the King of glory made for me. Just as Jesus was welcomed back into Heaven after paying the price for our salvation, we will be welcomed when we come through Him to Heaven one day. Open the gates! Here we come!
