The story is told of an airline flight that became very tumultuous when very bad thunderstorms arose mid-flight. The passengers began to panic quickly, and in a short time the airline attendants also began to become very nervous. At one point, an elderly lady noticed that a small boy sitting next to her was seemingly unbothered by turbulence. She asked how he could be so calm. His simple response was, “I’m not worried … my dad is the pilot.” It ought to be that when we see the turbulence of this world all around us daily, that we simply respond; “I’m not worried … my Heavenly Father is the pilot.”
Check out these two verses. I am going to put one word in bold letters. Pay special attention to those words when you see them. “For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever” (Psalm 9:4-5). The word I put in bold letters is the word, “Thou.” In the margin of my Bible I wrote: God defeats my enemies, not me.
I don’t know why it is so hard for me to learn this truth. Perhaps you are different from me. When troubles come in my life, I tend to try to “fix” the situation with my own strength; wisdom; money; effort; or ingenuity. I rarely succeed! I am praying that God will help me to learn this lesson well. It is not by my might, or by my power, but it is by His Spirit that victory is going to come in my life (Zechariah 4:6). This has always been true, and it will continue to remain truth!
Yes, our world is a mess today, but God is still very firmly seated on His throne! Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, leukemia, and other diseases seem to be running through every family; but God is still on His throne. Wars, and rumors of wars are all about us, but these do not catch God by surprise. People are acting out their sinful desires in every way conceivable, but God is still the One Who is ready and willing to fight for our spiritual well-being. The question is not whether God can succeed today. The question is whether we will yield to His control in our lives.
I don’t know what you are facing today, but I know that God is the One to stand for you and to make sure you are taken care of in the storm. He is keeping His eye on you. He knows who your enemies are today. He is able to stand against any and all foes that come your way who want to destroy you. Not only is He able, but He loves to care for His own! I love that thought! I will rest in the all-powerful arms of God today!
