Sometimes I think it is good for us to remember what we are saved from when we believe in Jesus. We often forget the horrors of Hell. We forget the blessings of an intimate relationship with God in Heaven. Sometimes we become so focused on the daily challenges of life that we forget that eternity has a far different look for us because of what Jesus Christ has done for us. Today I was reading through a few different chapters, and I was impressed with this idea from various Scriptures. Let me share them with you …
“Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, ‘Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste’ … And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it” (Isaiah 28:16, 18).
“I love the LORD, because He hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because He hath inclined His ear unto me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech Thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and He helped me” (Psalm 116:1-6).
I am so thankful for Jesus Christ, my Cornerstone! I am thankful that He conquered Hell for me! I am thrilled that He took the sting of death on Himself, and paid the price for my sin there on the cross! I am overjoyed that Jesus did all this so that these verses could be true for me. These Old Testament saints saw forward to the ultimate price that Jesus would pay for their sins, as well as for the sins of whosoever believeth in Him! What a great day it must have been for them, when they heard about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. They had placed their faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ by looking forward, just as we do looking backward. The pivotal point in the history of mankind came that day that Jesus Christ (the foundation stone … the sure stone … the precious corner stone) came and not only fulfilled all the laws, but disannulled the penalty for the sins of those who would place their faith in Him. I am so thankful that I have received the gift of eternal life that Jesus offers to all who will believe! I would hope that everyone reading this today has done the same. If you have not, please do not put that decision off another day!
