I have heard many people over my lifetime say that the Bible is too old-fashioned and out of touch with our times. Obviously, none of these people have ever read the Bible. I have never seen a book that was written so long ago with such a grasp on the current world we are living in. What I just read this morning is a perfect example. Today I read, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to deducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth” (I Timothy 4:1-3).
As I read these verses this morning, May 3, 2017; I had to smile to myself. We are living in such a “me” world. We tend to think that we are the originators of idea’s and plans, but the reality is that God has known what we would do all along. These verses above describe the world we live in today! We are living in a time when people are believing in the craziest cults and doctrines, and asking us to identify them as viable religions. We here lies every day, and definitely see hypocrisy all around us. It seems that men’s consciences are either so fried, or non-existent today with horrific acts being done all around our world.
These verses also tell us that there are going to be people who tell us that marriage is bad, and that living together is preferred. Well, that has been happening for most of my life time. I have also heard the term, “vegan” more lately than at any other time in my life. I am told this means a person does not eat any animal (meat), but only vegetables. It makes me laugh that God recorded this in the Bible many thousands of years before these guys invented the term, “vegan.”
I am pointing all of these things out to make a very important point to you today. While there may seem to be brilliant people around the world today who are telling you things that would seem to dispute Bible truth; it is always best to simply trust the Word of God! Recently, I heard a preacher make this statement: “When we open the Word of God, we open the mind of God.” I want to encourage you to open the old book (the Bible), and trust what you read there more than what you read on Fox News, or on Facebook, or in your newspaper. None of those have the track record of the Bible! I know it was written a long time ago, but it has timeless truths that you can build your life upon! Trust those timeless truths today!
