The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in Whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.  I will call upon the LORD, Who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies” (Psalm 18:2-3).

Wow!  These are some power-packed verses to start your day with today!  If you know this God … you don’t need anything or anyone else!  He is enough!  He is a rock … fortress … deliverer … God … strength … buckler … horn of our salvation … and high tower.  When troubles come is He the first one you run to … or are you like me and you try to fix the thing facing you with your own strength and wisdom.  How foolish we are when we do that!  With a God that stands beside us and the Holy Spirit Who lived in us here to help, why in the world would we ever resort to our own wisdom and strength?  That is a good question, but one I struggle with daily.

The chapter proceeds to tell us that there will be opposition to us on a daily basis.  I love these two verses in the middle of this chapter: “They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.  He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me” (Psalm 18:18-19).  The “they” of verse eighteen could be and is many different things.  Sometimes my enemies are external, and sometimes they are internal.  I have been my own worst enemy many times.  I think it is sometimes easier to battle an external enemy you can see than it is to battle the internal enemy of self and our sinful nature.

Regardless of who “they” is in your life, don’t forget that our God is our rock, fortress and deliverer; He is our God, strength, the One we trust, our buckler, and the horn of our salvation.  When “they” raise their ugly heads in our lives, it is time to turn to the God who is our “stay.”  He is the only One that can bring us into a large place and deliver us in these situations.  He is the only One that can meet every need we have and can defeat every enemy that we face, regardless of how big and bad they look!  Our God is ready to fight for us, because He delights in us!  That is an amazing thought!

The question is not whether or not God can take care of us … the question is whether or not we will run to Him and trust Him, or if we will try to “fix” things on our own.  The days we are living in have far more challenges that we can take care of on our own.  Today is a good day to run to the Master and depend upon His protection to care for us.  Don’t waste a moment trying to fix things on your own today; our God is enough!
